Etymology of Agrostis:
Gk. agrostis = grass, from agros = field; La. Agros = couch-grass. Ancient name for a forage grass.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
