Etymology of Cotyledon:
Gk. kotyledon = seed leaf, from kotyle = cup, bowl; referring to the bowl- or spoon-shape of the broad seed leaves.
Etymology of schaeferi:
Named after Dr Fritz Schafer (1881-1930), a medical practitioner on the Keetmanshoop-Luderitz railway line in Namibia and in the diamond fields until 1914. An amateur plant collector, he especially collected in the Klein Karas area of Namibia.
