For Edmund Davall (1763–1798), English-born botanist who resided in Switzerland most of his life. He was a plant collector and a Fellow of the Linnaean Society and a friend and correspondent of Sir James Edward Smith (1759–1828), one of the founders of the Linnaean Society in 1788. Davall established a botanical garden at Orbe, Switzerland, and compiled a collection of Swiss plants.
