For Johann(es) Christoph (Christian) Doell or Döll (1808–1885), German botanist. He studied natural sciences, theology and philosophy at the University of Heidelberg from 1827. In 1831, he was ordained a priest and became a tutor of languages at the Mannheim Gymnasium. In 1840, he became a teacher of botany and zoology at the Bürgerschule Mannheim. From 1843–1872 he was a librarian at the Royal Library of Karlsruhe. He wrote several books for learning Latin and English and a number of botanical publications including Rheinische Flora (1843) and a three-volume work Flora des Grossherzogthums Baden (Flora of the Duchy of Baden) (1857–1862) featuring flowering plants and cryptogams. He also wrote a chapter on Poaceae for Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius’s work Flora Brasiliensis.
