Short etymology:
For Margaret E. Dryden-Dymond (1909–1952), a member of the horticultural staff at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, who discovered and obtained plant material of this monotypic genus (Dymondia margaretae) in the Bredasdorp district on a Kirstenbosch expedition in 1933. She was honoured with both the specific and generic epithet for this taxon.
