Short etymology:
Anagram of Oedera, the previous name for the genus, after Georg Oeder of Copenhagen, author of Flora Danica, a massive work initially designed to cover all plant species in the crown lands of the Danish King. The name was changed because Crantz had already used it for a genus in Liliaceae (1768), thus antedating Linnaeus (1771).
