For Jean Pierre Louis Girardin (1803–1884), French chemist and agronomist and professor of chemistry at the School of Agriculture at Reun (1828–1857). He was dean and professor of chemistry at the Faculty of Lille (1857–1862), author of numerous works on the application of chemistry in agriculture such as Note on the Use of Bones Crushed or Ground as Fertilizer (1831), Memoirs of Chemistry Applied to Industry, Agriculture, Medicine and Home Economics (1839), Considered Manure as Fertilizer (1844) and Short Instruction on the Use of Salt in Agriculture (1849). He wrote an early work on volcanoes and other studies, was director of the School of Applied Sciences and the School of Industrial Arts and Mines, and was a member of the Academy of Medicine.
