Etymology of Herschelianthe:
Herschelia (q.v.); anthos = flower.
Etymology of newdigateae:
Honouring Caroline Newdigate (1857-1937) of Forest Hall, Plettenberg Bay. Her mother, born Caroline Duthie, was the daughter of Capt T. H. Duthie of Bolvidere, Knysna. Most of her collecting was done in the Plettenberg Bay area where she sent orchids to Harry Bolus.
