Short etymology:
For Agnes Ibbetson (1757–1827), British vegetable physiologist who contributed more than 50 papers on the microscopic structure and physiology of plants to Nicholson’s Journal and the Philosophical Magazine between 1800 and 1822 with papers such as Dissection of the Petals of Various Flowers, Showing the Structure from which the Beauty of their Colour Arises, Dissections of Plants, Showing the Growth of the Bud, On the Interior of Plants, On the Perspiration of Plants, and others. Her topics included such subjects as air-vessels, pollen, perspiration, sleep, winter-buds, grafting, impregnation, germination, and the Jussieuean method.
