For Benjamin Daydon Jackson (1846–1927), British botanist and taxonomist, who wrote the first volume of Index Kewensis, a reference book that appeared from 1893–1895, describing all the flowering plants, and which was accepted as the authority throughout the world for names of flowering plants. He authored nine books (botanical, botanic history and bibliographies) and many shorter publications. Aged 22 he became a Fellow of the Linnaean Society and then secretary from 1880–1902. Jackson was awarded an honorary PhD from Uppsala, created a knight of the Swedish Order of the Polar Star (1907), and in honour of his 80th birthday in 1926, the Linnaean Society appointed him curator of the Linnaean Collections.
