Etymology of Lasiostelma:
Gk. lasios = hairy, shaggy; stelma = crown; referring to the appearance of the corona.
Etymology of sandersonii:
Named after John Sanderson (1820-1881), journalist, trader and draughtsman. He was editor of the Natal Times and frequently sent seeds to Hooker at Kew and Harvey in Dublin.
