Etymology of Lathriogyna:
Gk. lathraios = hidden; gyne = woman (female parts). William Henry Harvey states that the reference is to the ovary being largely hidden in the extremely hairy calyx (Flora Capensis).
Etymology of candicans:
From the Latin candicans meaning "increasing in glow / whitening".
