Etymology of Mussaenda:
Latinised form of Sinhalese vernacular name mussenda meaning ‘red-leaved’ (more correctly ‘red-sepaled’); referring to the stunning blood-red sepals of M. erythrophylla, but other species have a wide range of colours.
