Etymology of Phalaris:
Gk. ancient name, perhaps from phaleros = shining; or phalos = the ridge of a helmet; referring to the shining seeds or possibly to the crest-like seed head.
Etymology of dentata:
From the Latin dentatus meaning 'toothed'. Each tooth is angled equally as compared with serrate in which the projections are angled more on one side than the other (forward pointing).
