Etymology of Planea:
La. planus = flat, even level, smooth; referring to the keeled (carinate) leaves, curling inward (slightly involute) but with flat margins.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
