Etymology of Psidium:
Gk. psidion = originally, it is claimed, the Greek name for the pomegranate, now given to the guava. Ancient Greeks mainly used rhoa for both the pomegranate tree and its fruit. Modern Greek for ‘pomegranate’ is rhodi.
