For Max (Maximilian) Schlechter (1874–1960), amateur botanist and businessman who settled in Port Nolloth, Namaqualand, who helped his renowned brother, Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlecter (1872–1925) (Schlecteria q.v.) collect plants in South Africa, mainly in Namaqualand, between 1896 and 1897. He built up a good collection of succulents plants, especially mesembs. On his death, these were distributed to various botanical institutes, including the Bolus Herbarium, the department of botany at Stellenbosch University, and the Division of Botany and Plant Pathology in Pretoria.
