Etymology of Spatalla:
Gk. spatalos = wanton, riotous. A sexual allusion to the unusually large pollen presenters on so small a flower. Commonly known as ‘spoons’.
Etymology of wallichii:
Named after Nathaniel Wallich (1786-1854), a Danish botanist and physician who extensively worked in India and made significant contributions to the study of Indian plants.
