Etymology of Taraxacum:
The name derivation of this plant has been traced back to the Persian scientist Al-Razi in about 900 CE who wrote ‘the tarashaquq is like chicory’ (Wikipedia.org). More recent names are Gk. taraktokos = cathartic or tarassein = to confuse, alter; referring to the culinary or medicinal properties of the leaves, which are said to have purgative or diuretic properties. ‘Dandelion.’
