Etymology of Tritonia:
La. triton = weathercock; alluding to the variable positions of the stamens. (Triton was also a Greek sea demigod, often represented as half man, half fish.)
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
