Etymology of Ursinia:
Named in honour of Johann Ursinus of Regensburg, the author of Arboretum Biblicum. Sphenogyne R.Br. is not considered separable.

Annual to 50 cm. Leaves pinnatisect or bipinnatisect. Flower heads radiate, solitary at the branch tips, yellow or orange, occ. with a dark ring and darker on the reverse, pappus scales 5, uniseriate. Aug.--Oct. Sandy and gravel slopes and flats, NW, SW, KM, LB, SE (S Namibia and Karoo to Port Elizabeth).
