Short etymology:
For Georg(e) Rudolf Boehmer (Böhmer) (1723–1803), German physician and botanist, who studied at the University of Leipzig before becoming professor of botany and anatomy at the University of Wittenberg in 1752. Later he became professor of therapy. While working at the university he had part-time duties as city physician for Wittenberg and later at Kemberg. He authored many works, systematically recording the history of botany including his five-volume Library of Natural History (1785–1789), Lexicon of Things in Herbarium, Technical History of Plants, Systematic and Literary Handbook of Natural History, and Economics and Related Sciences and Arts.
