With more than 2000 species of both indigenous and naturalized alien plants, this field guide is a considerable contribution to the flora of South Africa. The species are grouped by flower colour and then by family for ease of use. It covers the area of Rustenburg, Brits and Hammanskraal in the north, the Vaal River in the south, Potchefstroom to the west and Witbank and Standerton in the east. The Pretoria, Witwatersrand and Vereeniging are particularly well covered, especially that of the Magaliesberg and Suikerbosrand mountains. Much of the habitat targets grassland and bushveld, and therefore is applicable to the Transvaal Highveld as well as northern Orange Free State. The book additionally has family descriptions, keys to the major families, many leaf drawings, common names and brief descriptions.
