The Guthrie Herbarium is based on specimens of Cape Town bequeathed by English botanist and mathematician, Francis Guthrie (1831-1899), and housed in a separate wing of the Bolus Herbarium at the University of Cape Town. Dr Terry Trinder-Smith collected representative specimens from the Bolus Herbarium to create a complete compliment of flora for the Cape Peninsula. The CASABIO team used a high-resolution camera to document a representative image of each specimen, crop each image into several smaller images that highlight features of the specimen, and have made them available online so that every species collected on the peninsula may be readily identified.
