Kaboega
A private nature reserve between Port Elizabeth and Somerset East. It has unusual flora including the endemic Tulbaghia violacea subsp. macmasteri. It is situated in the rain shadow to the north of the Zuurberg mountains in the Somerset East district. The topography is rough with steep south and north aspect slopes, with some dry Karoo valleys between. This gives rise to a wide variety of vegetation types with elements of Cape Fynbos, Thicket and Nama Karoo vegetation.

Gk. poly = much; gala = milk; so-called from the belief that cattle grazing in fields with this plant produced more milk. (San Marcos growers in the United States claim that Polygala virgata ‘Portola’ has this property but the authors could find no scientific evidence).
