From the Latin robustus = 'robust' or 'strong', generally referring to the habit of the plant, but sometimes referring to the ability of the species to tolerate a variety of conditions.
Leaves hard succulent, sharp, glossy surfaced, grey-brown in sun, dark grey-green in shade. Leaf margins and keel white. Occasionally faint dark striations or raised white spots present. Flowers white, robust, tubular, sessile. Perianth lobes flared outwards. Inflorescence not branched. Peduncle wide, robust and flattened at base. Large sterile veined floral bracts always present along peduncle. (Bradleya, 2017)
