Etymology of Abrus:
Gk. (h)abros = soft, delicate. Smith and Stearn indicate of Arabic origin; an Egyptian name according to Prosper Alpini (1592); referring to the texture of the leaves.
Etymology of kaokoensis:
From Kaokoland in northern Namibia.
