Etymology of Achillea:
La. achillea, Gk. achilleios = Achilles, legendary hero of the Iliad, son of Peleus and Thetis, who supposedly learned the healing properties of plants of this genus from Chiron the Centaur and used them to staunch the wounds of his soldiers at the siege of Troy. In Greek mythology Achilles was invulnerable, except for his heel. Since he died due to a poisonous arrow shot into his heel the term ‘Achilles’ heel’ has come to mean a person’s principal weak point.
