Short etymology:
From the Greek acmo = 'anvil' and stemon = 'stamen'; referring to the shape. Possibly stemon derives from Proto-Indo-European *stéh₂mn̥ (“that which stands, stature”). Cognate with the Latin stāmen and Ancient Greek στάμνος (stámnos, “jar”).
