Etymology of Adromischus:
Gk. adros = thick; miskhos = a stalk; referring to the thick stalks of the species.
Etymology of schaeferianus:
Named after Dr Fritz Schafer (1881-1930), a medical practitioner on the Keetmanshoop-Luderitz railway line in Namibia and in the diamond fields until 1914. An amateur plant collector, he especially collected in the Klein Karas area of Namibia.
