Short etymology:
La. adventicius = foreign, strange, extraneous, coming from abroad or from outside. Rafinesque states: ‘Named after its adventitious production’, when growing in an unuual place. He described two species that did not appear to be native, one blooming in spring and the other in autumn, growing spontaneously in Bartram’s garden.
