Short etymology:
For Aline Marie Raynal-Roques (1937– ), French professor, botanist, explorer and botanical collector in Europe (France) and tropical Africa (Cameroon, Mali, Senegal) from 1960–1965. Wife of Jean Raynal, who named the genus after her. She worked extensively in the laboratory of phanerogams in the French National Museum of Natural History. She authored or co-authored a number of books, including Le Botanique Redécouverte, Collection des Nouvelles Fleurs (1994), Un Amour d’Orchidée: le Mariage de la Fleur et de l’Insect (2005) with Albert Roguenan and Yves Sell, and Le Genie des Végétaux: des Conquérants Fragile (2006) with Marcel Bournérias and Christian Block.
