Etymology of Alstroemeria:
For Baron Klas von Alstroemer (Clas Alströmer, Claus von Alstroemer) (1736–1796), Swedish naturalist, chancellor of Gothenburg and close friend and pupil of Linnaeus. From 1760–1764 Alstroemer travelled throughout southern Europe, collecting plants for Linnaeus. Linnaeus named this South American plant after him.
