Etymology of Anacardium:
Gk. ana = upwards; kardia = heart. Originally applied by 16th-century apothecaries to the ‘heart-shaped’ fruit of an Indian fruit (Semecarpus anacardium); later used by Linnaeus as a generic name for the cashew (Hugh Glen).
