Etymology of Aptosimum:
Gk. Aptosimum = not falling (a- = not; ptosis = fall); referring to the capsules which remain attached to the stems long after the seeds have been shed (William John Burchell, 1822).
Etymology of abietinum:
From the Latin abies meaning ‘silver fir’ and the Latin -tina an adjectival suffix implying likeness; i.e. resembling the silver fir
