Etymology of Aptosimum:
Gk. Aptosimum = not falling (a- = not; ptosis = fall); referring to the capsules which remain attached to the stems long after the seeds have been shed (William John Burchell, 1822).
Etymology of transvaalense:
From the former Transvaal Province of South Africa; now Gauteng Province. Trans meaning 'across', and vaal refers to the Vaal River, it being on the far side of the river from the Cape.
