Rhizomatous perennial to 1 m, stem subterete, usually with short ascending branches below. Leaves broad, fibrotic, spathes rust-brown, hairy below, transparent on margins. Flowers blue, style undivided. Capsules oblong, 3-winged. Nov.--Dec. Rocky mountain soils, 200--1500 m, SW (Cape Peninsula to Caledon).
