Name from the Greek a, negative, and thanatos, death, in allusion to the persistent dry involucral bracts.
Etymology of crithmifolia:
From the Greek ‘crithmi’ / ‘krithe’ meaning ‘barley’; and the Latin ‘folia’ / ‘folium’ meaning ‘leaf’.

Mainly Oct.--Jan. Sandy flats and slopes, often along drainage lines, NW, SW (Piketberg to Hermanus and Riviersonderend Mts).
