For Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville (1777–1850), French zoologist and anatomist. Initially, he planned to study painting but switched his career choice and became professor of anatomy and zoology in the Faculty of Sciences at Paris (1812–1830), a member of the French Academy of Sciences (1825) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (1837). His publications cover a wide range of subjects such as the distribution of the animal kingdom (1816), the skeletal and dental system of recent and fossil mammals (1839–1864), French fauna (1821–1830), general and comparative physiology (1833), a manual of conchology and malacology (1825–1827), and a history of the science of organisms (1845).
