Short etymology:
Gk. bous = ox; pléuron = rib; hence bupleuros = ox-rib. Various reasons suggested for name choice: an inference to ridges on the fruit or the cattle swelling after eating the leaves or the parallel veins of some leaves of the Bupleurum species.
