Etymology of Caralluma:
Caralluma is named from the Arabian qarh alluhum = a flesh wound or abscess; perhaps referring to the erect, fleshy, diffusely branched stem.
Etymology of virescens:
From the Latin for 'growing green' or 'verdent' or 'becoming green'. Frequently used as an adjective to describe the green colour of the flowers.
