Etymology of Ceropegia:
Gk. keros = wax; pege = fountain. Linnaeus described this genus in volume 1 of his Species plantarum, which appeared in 1753. Linnaeus thought that the flowers looked like candles and Ceropegia literally means a fountain of wax.

Succulent climber to 1 m with finely striate, grey-green stems 2--4 mm diam. Leaves 3--7 mm, caducous. Flowers 50--70 mm long, tube cylindrical above and at least 10 mm diam. throughout, cream to greenish with fine green veins outside, petals narrowing to tips, without cilia. Nov.--Apr. Karroid scrub, SE (Willowmore to Kenya, Madagascar).
