Etymology of Cheilanthes:
Gk. keilo = lip; anthos = flower; referring to the liplike false indusium that covers the sporangia. The sorus is marginal in these ferns.
Etymology of leachii:
Named after the engineer and botantist Leslie C. 'Larry' Leach (1909-1996) who specialised in southern African succulent taxonomy.
