Etymology of Cleretum:
Gk. kleros = fate, chance, lot (as in ‘drawing lots’); -etum = the place dominated by a given plant. In early Sparta public land was apportioned to citizens by drawing lots, with the best land given to those who, by chance, drew a winning lot.

From the Latin ‘papulosum’ / ‘pappulosus’ meaning ‘invested with hairy seeds’

Trailing papillose succulent. Leaves ligulate to spathulate. Flowers large (to 40 mm diam) on a long pedicel or small on a short pedicel, yellow. Fruits with high rims. Sept.--Oct. ?, NW, SW, KM, LB (Namaqualand to Mossel Bay).
