Succulent perennial forming mats or domes. Leaf bodies 8--25 mm long, subglobose, occ. flattened, glabrous or lightly papillate, often streaked or lined, sheath brownish grey, persistent. Flowers nocturnal, white to pink or yellow. Fruits 5--6-locular. Mar. Quartzite patches on shale, granite or calcrete, NW (Namaqualand to W Karoo and Bokkeveld Mts).
