Etymology of Crassula:
La. crassus = thick; -ula = diminutive; referring to the fleshy succulent leaves.
Etymology of weissii:
Named after Frederic Ernest Weiss (1865-1953). English botanist and Professor of Botany at Manchester Univ. 1892-1930. He visited South Africa in 1905, travelling through the Karoo, Transvaal and Natal, after which he published his observations in two articles.
