Glabrescent tuberous perennial to 30 cm. Leaves mostly basal but grading into the bracts, palmatisect, occ. palmatifid, margins lightly revolute, paler beneath. Flowers in terminal or axillary racemes, showy, bilabiate, laterally slit, white to mauve, 8--13 mm long, stamens c. 6 mm long, 2 anthers bearded. Aug.--Nov., often after fire. Sandy and stony flats and slopes, NW, SW (Cedarberg Mts to Cape Peninsula).
