Etymology of Delosperma:
Gk. delos = visible, open, transparent; sperma = seed; referring to seeds that are easily visible as they are in an unenclosed chamber of the capsule which has no covering membrane.
Etymology of longipes:
From the Latin longus = 'long' and pes = 'foot'. In plants, this often refers to the base of the leaf or flower.

Erect, deciduous shrublet to 30 cm, with tuberous rootstock, branches reddish-brown and papillate. Leaves deciduous, flat, papillate. Flowers solitary, magenta to reddish-golden, to 80 mm diam. Fruits unknown. Aug.--Oct. Stony slopes, NW (Botterkloof to N Cedarberg Mts).
