Long etymology:
Erect or decumbent annual to 35 cm. Leaves pinnatifid to pinnatisect. Flowers axillary, 2-saccate, greyish-violet with dark magenta centre, yellow sacs and a yellow stamen-bearing boss, limb 12--23 mm long, sacs c. 2--5.5 mm long, posticous stamens straight or upcurved, anterior stamens downcurved, style upcurved. Capsules ovate-falcate. Aug.--Oct. Fynbos and sandveld in sand or loam, NW (Elandsbaai to Piketberg).
