Erect or decumbent annual to 13 cm. Leaves ovate to elliptic, sinuate to pinnatisect. Flowers axillary, 2-saccate, pastel red with dark magenta centre and yellow sacs, stamen-bearing boss and base of lateral lobes, with a small callus-like outgrowth behind the stamens, limb 8.5--10 mm long, sacs c. 1 mm long, stamens erect, posterior filament thickened and bilobed, pollen orange. Capsules ovate-falcate. Aug.--Oct. Renosterveld in clay loam, LB, SE (Barrydale to Langkloof).
